Great Books............My latest reading list....
We had our annual Clergy Conference last week with Carrie Doehring as our speaker. She is a lovely and gracious person and very smart too. I had the privilege to have dinner with her the night before. I have read her books, 1. The Practice of Pastoral Care: A Postmodern Approach and 2. Taking Care: Monitoring Power Dynamics and Relational Boundaries in Pastoral Care and Counseling. I have already used the first book for didactic. I particulary like how the first book talks about finding the religious symbols that are meaningful to people when they are in distress. The second book concentrates on power and misuse of power and it is a really good book. She uses movies and literature to illustrate her points.
Speaking of books, My CPE Supervisor, Darryl Tiller just published his new book GROWING INTO JESUS which is a basic book on faith for the average pew sitter. My dear friend Harold Straun had his book LIFESPIRALS published and it is available at www.lifespirals.com.
My long time coming book about the faith of the western outlaw Jesse James is in the final editoral stages and I will let you know when it is published!
